About Glassimetal Technology
Founded in 2010 by William L. Johnson and colleagues at Caltech, Glassimetal Technology will focus on commercializing metallic-glass alloys, using a new kind of production technique technology discovered by Johnson and his team. Stronger and tougher than steel or titanium, metallic glass is an ideal material for everything from medical instruments to aircraft components. Metallic glasses are not transparent glass---they are metals with the “disordered atomic structure of glass”, an exceptional combination of the strength associated with glass and the toughness of metals, says Johnson. Johnson’s team includes Marios Demetriou, company co-founder and Senior Research Associate at Caltech, Joe Schramm, Senior Scientist at Glassimetal , and Montague Rittgers, Operations Manager for Glassimetal.
